Yes it happens all the time. Unfortunately there is always a little truth in the b.s. to hook traders. Very cold "unexpected" & "extreme" sudden out of the ordinary weather can cause draw downs in NG and cause bounces in prices with traders trying to get long in case something out of the ordinary occurs for a long period of time. But they don't change the overall trend of things. And now with such a major change in technology recovering NG it is a real bearish game changer overall. Bottom picking NG with such bearish fundamentals and bearish technicals is not something most should try. As I said before there are better fish to fry.....sorry to hear about your friend. Hopefully he's put an end to that type of speculation that can wipe a person out who's only trying to be an investor and believes he's doing the correct thing. There aught to be a law against it.........
