Look at Vietnam. What did we do? We came to their aid by training their troops, and sending advisors. Charlie comes along to a village where our advisors were showing them how to defend themselves, Charlie announces they had come to kill the Americans so if they would leave they would come to no harm. What did their villagers do, along with their troops? They left and our guys were killed.
