Bernanke says not sure when Fed will tighten (by Steve Goldstein)

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- During his press conference, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said he didn't know when the Fed would tighten interest rates and that "extended period" suggests that the central bank would wait at least a "couple of meetings" before acting.Bernanke said the dollar's weakness in part reflects an unwinding of the safe haven flows the U.S. dollar saw during the financial crisis and that the dollar's strength is both in the interest of the U.S. and the world. He added that the U.S. economy likely grew at a rate below 2% in the first quarter.
