Re: Taxes/710/Rabbit/All
In Response To: Taxes ()

Hi,
Let me stir the pot here !!!!
This will center on US Corporate taxes squirreled away overseas !!!

Why do we permit this !!!???
I allow the US tax code makes no sense and is driven in large part by politics and political earmarks to legislation.
Rabbit mentioned "free wine" - is that hardly worse than what we did with Ethanol ??? Fortunately that subsidy has ended.
Yes, a socialist drift in France will further drive Europe into the "hole" !!!

I want to separate this into TWO parts and keep it to US Corporations for now.
..
Profits generated in the US and
Profits generated overseas

For US operations:
I have said this before - US Corporations do NOT PAY TAXES they only "COLLECT THEM" and the costs of same are simply passed through to the US consumers in the form of higher prices. It also impacts the "competitive" balance among producers of similar products both here and abroad.

So if the Corporate tax rate on domestic sales/profits is kept "reasonable" it benefits US consumers.
Why do we permit profits on US Sales to be shipped overseas and NOT TAXED !!!!! I think Apple is a good recent example.

Those funds should be "repatriated" and taxed.

Further, why should we permit those funds "now sitting overseas" to be used to finance the production of products sold overseas for the benefit of another country and we see nothing of it !!!!

On profits that ARE GENERATED OVERSEAS" why should we not TAX THEM, and maybe at a higher rate than we do for domestic profits ???

Who does all of this money "squirreled away overseas" benefit ????

Certainly not you or me !!!

Maybe if all of that "overseas money" were "forced" to be repatriated (and not all taxed away) those corporations could afford to build plant and equipment to support our domestic needs, expand employment at a decent wage, and I bet still have the ability to compete overseas for exports.

I don't claim to be "right" on all of this, but what good comes of "importing a bottle of wine" from France so that they can "retire earlier" !!!????

And yes, Warren Buffet has enough money that higher taxes won't hurt him a bit, but I would rather see him investing in Railroads and the like that will really do some good rather than handing it over to the US Govt. to fritter away on Medicaid for Illegal aliens in the hope that the "offspring of the illegals 'now citizens'" to vote for our Obama Socialist Party !!!!

Food for thought, I would really like to get a good discussion going on this !!!!!
Elections are close at hand, but the Socialist base is "growing" !!! Soon it may become irreversible, if it is not already !!

Thanks, Lee
