Despite NASA's clarifications regarding the zodiac sign controversy, social media continues to be in chaos. Reports continue to claim that the space agency has replaced the zodiac signs and that a 13th zodiac has been added.
Back in January, NASA summarized the story of how the western zodiac was formed. The space agency said that rather than being grounded in science, the zodiac signs were based on history. The Babylonians had formed the zodiac signs through constellation patterns, 12 to be exact, to match the 12 months.
The 13th constellation, Ophiuchus, was left out. Yet, even with the 13th sign left out, there are as much as 21 zodiacal constellations, but astrology has nothing to do with astronomy -- so clearly, the signs have not been changed.
