I'm not sure I completely agree w/ you on this one, Dr. Marty.
At a deep level, as living beings we are basically either growing or dying. Growth implies change. Being optimistic, curious and observant keeps us open to learning. Even if we believe we know everything there is to know about trading, if we feel like our strategies "work" for us, it is still important to be open to new ideas. Even the most accomplished have weaknesses that can be improved upon. As Dr. Covey points out, it is a good habit to "sharpen the saw." He also makes a point that there is a balance between "production" and "productive capacity." I think being open to new ideas is an essential element of sharpening our productive capacity as traders. Obviously, chasing every concept that comes along with little forethought would lead to unfocused, flailing attempts and haphazard results. However, having a closed mind to new ideas can lead to complacency and rigor mortis.
I enjoy the forum here. Yes, I get a kick out of sharing my ideas on various subjects. However, I am also grateful to learn ideas from others. To be able to see things from a different vantage point is useful and healthy, I believe.
